RYA Shore-based courses at competitive prices for 2026

One of the most important objectives of the Club during the winter months is training. The Club is an RYA recognised teaching establishment and welcomes non-members as well as members on its shore-based courses. The training programme aims to help both inexperienced and experienced sailors gain the qualifications needed to become safe and competent yachtsmen and women.

Courses are run in our classroom upstairs (Sorry, no lift) at the clubhouse on the riverbank in Woodbridge.   If you are not already a member, the discounts to the course costs for members if you do both the Day Skipper and VHF course is more than half the cost of a full year’s membership with all the benefits that brings.  For further details contact our Training Officer, Martin Phillips using our contact form.

Day Skipper runs over three weekends, 7/8th, 14/15th and 12/22nd March.  You must be able to attend all three weekends.   Cost £325 including the RYA course materials, tea and coffee. Discounted to £290 for club members.  Covers all the navigation and other theory needed for the day skipper practical.

DSC VHF Radio course runs on the tth of February.  The course costs £80 which includes the course materials, tea and coffee, plus the RYA exam fee payable separately to the RYA before the course starts.  The exam fee is currently £76 but subject to change.  For club members, the course cost is discounted to £65.  This covers the knowledge and certification to legally operate a VHF ships radio.

Please note that under 18’s can participate,  subject to a responsible adult attending the course with them.
