The club invites all those interested in sailing and the sea to the club house on the banks of the River Deben, Woodbridge on Sunday 3rd May, when the club will be open to non-members 12noon – 2.30pm. The club is situated on the River Wall, within walking distance of Woodbridge, what3words: tango. simple. slipping.
The 2026 cruising season has got off to a flying start as boats (motor and sail) are back in the water, with the inaugural ‘cruise’ of the hotly contested model boat challenge on Woodbridge boating lake.
The first cruise with actual yachts is the Deben Discovery in May, led by Clive and Barbara. This delightful cruise is on the waters of the River Deben with a timed passage from the Woodbridge Haven buoy to Washington buoy and back over 4.8 NM, a club meal, and SADs (safe arrival drinks) at the club house. This will be the first passage over the bar for many sailors this year.
The Ore and Alde cruise is always fully booked, with cruise leader Andy having a delightful programme cruising Orford and Aldeburgh, with SADS and convivial meals at local yacht clubs and pubs.
Members are looking forward to the premiere Muddy Cruise along the Stour and Blackwater, led by Brian and Rosemary, this is a new idea for boats with shallow draughts.
Although the much-enjoyed Wednesday suppers have ceased until autumn, they are replaced by the Wednesday barbecues, a delightful way to spend an evening in the pleasant garden of the riverside club house.
The weekend bar is a lovely place to spend a lunchtime, catching up with friends and enjoying a drink with possibly the best view in Woodbridge, and a special delight in summer, when you can sit on the balcony.
The club is looking forward to the Woodbridge Regatta in July, when the club house will be open to non-members.
