Woodbridge Cruising Club members are looking forward to the start of the sailing season, and are preparing boats for the first cruise.

On shore activities are continuing apace, with the Burn’s Night supper a highlight. Wednesday suppers are a convivial evening, with delicious home cooked food and the chance to socialise. The 7th February supper had a Greek theme with Stifado a culinary delight.  The Spice Night in March is always popular with six unique dishes of authentic cuisine.

The fortnightly Thursday walks are enjoyed by members and dogs, and finish with a welcome meal at a local pub.   The first walks of 2024 were along the river at Waldringfield,  Newbourne Springs and Hemley, in brilliant sunshine, albeit frosty and cold, with a warming meal at the Fox. Other walks included  a stroll around Hasketon with a meal at the Turk’s Head.

Sunday talks included a talk by Felixstowe Coast Patrol, which highlighted the valuable work they do, from towing yachts back to harbour to rescuing people who have got stranded on the Deben bar. Future talks are of an amazing solo voyage from Orford to Brazil via St Helena, and the annual cruise meeting.

If you want to brush up on your navigation skills or need the DAC Radio Licence, W C C operates courses open to the general public in spring 2024. The DSC radio course is in March. It is a legal requirement in order to operate a DSC radio, you need the current course and not the old style VHF.

The cruising club is continuing with winter activities and Club Cruises are being planned for the summer, from the Deben river to Europe, so why not consider joining us. This website has full details and new members are welcome. If you have a genuine interest in sailing and the sea, have a look at our programme of maritime related events on the calendar.
