As the warm weather approaches, Woodbridge Cruising Club members are starting to get boats in the water after winter maintenance, and hardy sailors are undertaking the first voyages of 2026.
The annual March cruise meeting hosted by cruise captain Andy sees the cruise leaders outlining their programmes, with trips to Lowestoft, Blackwater and even Holland. The well organised cruises are the prime reason for joining the club, as all the marinas are booked, thus enabling a peaceful well organised cruise in company
The monthly Sunday talks are always popular, and the February talk was on Bawdsey Radar, with the March talk being about the ill-fated Franklin Expedition which set out in 1845 to discover the Northwest Passage across the Arctic Circle. Other onshore events include a monthly board games evening hosted by Rosemary and Brian.
Thursday walks are a four-mile stroll through the beautiful Suffolk countryside, and thanks to Bram who led a scenic walk around Orford and Chantry marshes, ending with lunch at The King’s Head. Monica guided a walk around Martlesham Creek, with The Black Tiles the lunch venue. Dog friendly pubs always provided a welcome repast at the end of the walk for a warming lunch.
The annual Fitting Out Supper in March marks the start of the cruising season, and members are looking forward to this enjoyable event under the talented auspicious of Rosemary and Sally the galley captains. A Beatle Quiz is a new initiative for March and is sure to be popular.
The club bar overlooking the River Deben is always open at weekends, do look on the club website for the next open weekend, when non-members are welcome to attend.
